In August 2008, Scott and Shannon Meador moved
to Denton to follow the call that God had placed in their hearts. Several
years earlier, the Lord had stirred their hearts to start a church that would
touch their generation and raise up fully devoted followers of Christ. It
was a great step of faith but they new that God would be faithful as he had
always been in the past.
On September 21, 2008, Journey Church held its
first leaders meeting with 6 people. It wasn't long before other families
joined this small group and the Journey team quickly expanded. By
October, the Journey team began to meet on a regular basis for prayer. Plans were made to launch weekly worship
experiences in 2009.
On February 8, 2009, Journey Church held its first
public worship experience in the Cinemark Theater. That morning over 210
people showed up to be a part of this new and exciting community of
faith. In December 2009, Journey moved across I-35 to the Silver Cinemas
inside the Golden Triangle Mall. Journey placed offices and children's
rooms in a leased storefront next door to the theater.
From the beginning, Journey Church has focused
on reaching out to the non-churched, building relationships, and serving others
in the community. The life-giving
message of the Gospel, the passion and joy of Sunday worship experiences, and
the simple style of Journey has already made a difference in many families and
lives.
For now, Journey continues to hold its Sunday
worship experiences at the Silver Cinemas inside the mall while the kids meet
next door in the storefront. |
